Check your nuts !!!!!
I keep noticing lots of magazine ads and internet ads concerning health checks ......... look for this and look for that - one of them was an 'in your face' ad saying 'check your nuts'. So I thought I had better have a look. I started at the back of the bike and checked the suspension bolts and worked my way forward. I got to the gear shifter and it just came off in my hands.... god knows how long it had been loose and I have never adjusted or had it removed since new.
Moral of the story is perhaps not to ignore those ads -- for both kinds of nuts.
My first natural instinct is to breathe. My second is to evade tax's.

HAH! Thanks. Ducati is famous for their kickstand bolts to come out, and the first thing they recommend you do is safety wire it.
Going to check later.
